Burn Up!
Body armor never seemed so gratuitous

Tight body suits are necessary for combat

Has anyone ever seen a group of unbelievably sexy female cops wearing skintight clothing—in the real world? I’d be willing to bet that only a few fortunate souls have been graced with such a sight; however, anyone whose watched anime has almost undoubtedly seen some female buddy cop show at one time or another, and witnessed a platoon of scantily clad women lay the smack down on the bad guys with extreme prejudice. That’s where Burn Up! comes in, but this time with triple the action and triple the bust lines, teasing its way to the bitter end…

The cover adamantly boasts, “Body armor has never looked so good!,” whether or not this is true is certainly up to you; personally, I’ve seen better. What Burn Up! really has… or… well, somewhat has going for it, is its raunchy, tasteless appeal. However, while tasteless dalliance may prove provocative, it certainly is not captivating nor is it engrossing.

This thirty minute OAV is a gun blazing story about three police officers: Maki, Reimi, and Yuka. I feel that describing the story is useless because the sequence of events is far from logical; it would be too tedious a task to explain (you’re not missing much, trust me). I’ll jump right into the conflict of the movie: one of the girls manages to get herself kidnapped by a very dangerous man. We are shown a scene taking place in this man’s house, in which the kidnapped girl is tortured, but I could swear that she’s enjoying it. Of course, the other two girls make it their mission to rescue her, no matter what the cost.

Although I make Burn Up! sound to be absolutely hideous, it really isn’t unbearable. It’s simple, entertaining, and occasionally funny, yet utterly unfulfilling. There was never much potential for such a story, but they certainly could have done more. Maki, Reimi, and Yuka are three incompatible characters, albeit very similar. They all have differing characteristics, yet they all act the same. On top of that, there is an overwhelming amount of ambiguity clouding the storyline; not to mention their skin tight figures, and flirtatious mannerisms often distract from the focus of the scenes.

In good faith, I can not recommend Burn Up! to anyone who wants substantial entertainment. I can say, however, if you have a desire for bouncy animated tits and a hunger for autoeroticism, by all means indulge yourself. After all,
Burn Up!, in many ways, draws parallels to Plastic Little: both completely exchange the mainstays of coherence for form-fitting body suits and exceptionally large bust lines.
