There's a certain point in which creativity turns into asinine absurdity; just because hot school girls, flying pirate ships, and Wizards sound cool, it doesn't mean they will be cool when they coalesce. It's nothing more than common sense; even the greatest exploits known to man have their limits. The creators of Zeguy learned this the hard way. While I do respect their rather creative endeavor, I can't help but scoff at the bizarre end result.

The story of Zeguy revolves around another dimension, in which there lies a sealed off kingdom, rumored to hold the powers of the universe. The only way to open it is to possess three items: the mask of Zeguy, the Bell of Zeguy, and the Priestess of Zeguy. Unfortunately, all three of these items are hidden somewhere in the human world. This poses a problem for Miki and Sayaka as they get kidnapped by evil doers from the other dimension. Foolishly, they mistake Sayaka for the Priestess of Zeguy, and Miki has no choice but to rescue her.

I'll admit it, I'm a fan of hot school girls, and I'd be ashamed of any man with a package who wasn;t. In fact, if I was graciously granted a life in which I was allowed to watch school girls all day (much like the protagonist in the first episode of U-Jin Brand), I'd be one helluva' happy man! However, school girl action heroes in another dimension fighting Albert Einstein-looking mad scientists on flying pirate ships, with a crew of misfit cyborgs well, let's just say it ruined the whole school girl aspect. Not to mention that Miki and her two odd male companions were some of the least developed characters I've seen, up to date. Oddly enough, the main problem wasn't the underdeveloped characters or even the low quality animation; conversely, it was how the story presented itself. Villains seemed to occasionally switch sides without any reasonable explanation to rationalize their decision, and at the same time, each scene succeeded only in showing off the director's wanton extravagance. In theory, some of their ideas may have sounded plausible, but that's the problem with a theory, it's simply reasoning and speculation, not a definitive fact.

To make up for its lack of everything crucial, Zeguy rushes into the action as quick as it possibly can. At first, it's somewhat entertaining; mainly because we are privileged enough to be able to see dozens of odd creatures from the other dimensions fall before a futuristic samurai warrior. However, even the action begins to lose its luster as each scene offers us nothing new, or exciting, only outlandish nonsense.

Straightforward, to-the-point, and oh so lacking any finesse, Zeguy barely comes off as semi-bearable. It may have action, girls bathing, and more than enough fantasy to keep any automaton engrossed, but then again so does Street Fighter.

1/2 (Very Poor)
